Welcome to Berthoud Main Street

In 1883 Peter Turner established the new town of Berthoud one mile north of the Little Thompson Creek. Agriculture thrived in Berthoud and the surrounding Little Thompson Valley and the town grew as merchants set up business to service the area farms and ranches. The settlement became a town in 1888. Many of the historic buildings from this early period still exist and, in recent years, Berthoud passed an ordinance to maintain that turn-of-the-century appeal.

A Colorado Main Street Community since 2003, Berthoud is today characterized by its tree-lined residential avenues, a historic downtown, growing commerce, and proximity to world-class outdoor recreation. “Old Town,” the central part of downtown, is a delightful mix of parks and lovely homes. The downtown area welcomes you back to a simpler time when merchants really appreciated your business and service was the code.
