Welcome to Steamboat Springs MainStreet
As legend has it, Steamboat Springs was discovered by French fur trappers in the early 1800s when they heard a bubbling spring in the distance that sounded like a Steamboat. Founding father James Crawford settled the area in 1875.
Steamboat is rich in mineral springs, which drew tourists as early as the 1900s. Skiing also has deep roots in Steamboat’s heritage, as the townspeople historically used skis to travel from place to place. It wasn’t until the Steamboat Ski Area opened in 1963 that skiing became viewed as a form of recreation over transportation.
A Colorado Main Street community since 2006, Steamboat Springs is today as popular in the summer as it is in the winter. Visitors are drawn to the area for its natural beauty and multitude of year-round recreational opportunities. Steamboat Springs also offers a vibrant downtown with delightful shops and restaurants for visitors and residents to enjoy.
